HERMAN, ABEL, Private, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Born in Catawba County where he resided prior to enlisting in Catawba County on August 13, 1861. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 2-3, 1863. Returned to duty prior to July 14, 1863, when he was captured at Falling Waters, Maryland. Confined at Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C., until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, August 8, 1863. Transferred to Elmira, New York, August 16, 1864. Died at Elmira on September 12, 1864, of chronic diarrhoea." [NCT 8:145; Hahn 183]

HERMAN, BENJAMIN., Private, Co. A, 18th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted at age 24, on August 14, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until he died at Staunton, Virginia, November 21, 1862 of "febris typhoides." [NCT 6:313; Hahn:357]

Enlisted April 27, 1861, died since the war.  [Hahn:109]

HERMAN, D. ALEXANDER, Private, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
 Resided in Catawba County' where he enlisted on March 15, 1862. Died in hospital at Gordonsville, Virginia, May 27, 1862, of "typhoid fever." [NCT 8:145; Hahn 183]

HERMAN, DANIEL J., Private, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
 Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted on May 6, 1864, for the war. Captured at Petersburg, Virginia, April 3, 1865. Confined at Hart's Island, New York Harbor, where he died on June 15, 1865, of "typhoid fever." [Hahn:185; NCT 8:145; Hahn 185]

HERMAN, DANIEL MONROE, Corporal, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted at age 24, August 13, 1861. Mustered in as Private. Captured at Hanover Court House, Virginia, May 27, 1862. Confined at Fort Monroe, Virginia, and at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor. Paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia, where he was received July 12, 1862, for exchange. Declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing on August 5, 1862. Returned to duty prior to November 1, 1862. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 1-3, 1863. Returned to duty on an unspecified date. Promoted to Corporal on December 1, 1864. Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 9, 1865. [NCT 8:145; Hahn 183]

HERMAN, DARIOUS L., Private, Co. E, McRAE'S BATTALION, N. C. CAVALRY
Born in Catawba County where he resided prior to enlisting in Burke County, October 5, 1863, for the war. . Present or accounted for until transferred to Company H, 28th Regiment, N.C. Troops when this battalion disbanded in June 1864. [NCT 2:708; 8:201]

HERMAN, ELKANAH L., Private, Co. A, 12th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Enlisted in Catawba County on April 1, 1862. Present or accounted for until discharged on January 27, 1865. Reason discharged not reported, North Carolina pension records indicate he was wounded near Richmond, Virginia, in July, 1862. [NCT5:122]

HERMAN, FREDERICK, Private, Co. A, 18th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted at age 20, on August 14, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 12, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until transferred to Elmira, New York, August 3, 1864. Paroled at Elmira, New York and transferred to Boulware's and Cox's Wharves, James River, Virginia where he was received February 20-21, 1865, for exchange. Furloughed from hospital at Richmond, Virginia, February 25, 1865, [NCT 6:314; Hahn:356, 370]

HERMAN, GEORGE DANIEL, Corporal, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Born in Catawba County* where he resided prior to enlisting in Catawba County at age 22, August 13, 1861. Mustered in as Private. Wounded at the Battle of Second Manassas, Virginia, August 28-30, 1862. Returned to duty prior to November 1, 1862. Promoted to Corporal on September 1, 1863. Killed at Wilderness, Virginia, May 5, 1864. [NCT 8:145; Hahn 183]

HERMAN, HENRY ADOLPHUS, 2nd Lieutenant, 89th REGIMENT, N. C. MILITIA
Enlisted in Catawba or Rowan County at age 24, January 21, 1862. Mustered in as Private in 2nd Co. B, 42nd Regiment, N.C. Troops. Promoted to Corporal in May-June, 1862. Promoted to 3rd Sergeant, November-December, 1862. Present or accounted for through October, 1864. Assigned to Co. P, 89th Regiment, NC Militia as a 2nd Lieutenant. [NCT 8:145; Bradley; Hahn 364]

Born in Catawba County where he enlisted on March 24, 1864, for the war. Died "at home" on August 27, 1864, of disease. [NCT 8:145]

HERMAN, LEANDER, Private, Co. E, 32nd REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Alexander County and enlisted in Catawba County at age 21, August 28, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded in the thigh at or near Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, on or about May 10, 1864. Died on May 17, 1864, of wounds. Place of death not reported. [NCT 9:50]

HERMAN, MILES MONROE, Private, Co. A, 18th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted at age 34, August 14, 1861, for the war. . Present or accounted for until he was reported missing at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1863. No further records. [NCT 6:314; Hahn 357]

Resided in Catawba County and enlisted in Iredell County, September 6, 1862, for the war. Died in hospital in Winchester, Virginia, October 14, 1862. Cause of death not reported. [NCT 7:149]

HERMAN, PHANUEL J., Sergeant, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Born in Catawba County* where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Catawba County at age 23, August 13, 1861. Mustered in as Private. Captured at Hanover Court House, Virginia, May 27, 1862. Confined at Fort Monroe, Virginia, and at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor. Paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia, where he was received July 12, 1862, for exchange. Declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing on August 5, 1862. Returned to duty prior to November 1, 1862. Promoted to Corporal on March 25, 1863. HERMAN, RUFUS D., Private, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted at age 17, August 13, 1861. Captured at Gravel Hill, Virginia, July 28, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until transferred to Elmira, New York, August 8, 1864. Released at Elmira on July 3, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance. [Roll of Honor indicates he was wounded and captured in an unspecified battle.] [NCT 8:145; Hahn 183, 186]

HERMAN, WILLIAM HENRY, Private, Co. C, 28th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted on March 15, 1862. Died in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, July 8, 1862, of "diarrhoea ch[ronic]." [NCT 8:145; Hahn 183]

HERMAN, WILLIAM L., Private, Co. E, 32nd REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Alexander County and enlisted in Catawba County at age 23, October 25, 1861. Present or accounted for until wounded in the thigh and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-4, 1863. Hospitalized at Gettysburg. Transferred to hospital at Davids Island, New York Harbor, on or about July 20, 1863. Paroled at Davids Island and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received on September 16, 1863, for exchange. Died at home in Alexander County on or about January 21, 1864, of wounds. HERMAN, WILSON, Private, Co. E, 32nd REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Alexander County and enlisted in Catawba County at age 19, October 25, 1861. Present or accounted for until wounded in the thigh and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-5, 1863. Hospitalized at Gettysburg: Transferred to hospital at Davids Island, New York Harbor, July 21, 1863. Paroled at Davids Island and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received on September 16, 1863, for exchange. Returned to duty in January-October, 1864. Present or accounted for until captured in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, April 3, 1865. Transferred to the custody of the Federal Provost Marshal on April 14, 1865. No further records. [NCT 9:50]

HARMON, DAVID A., Private, Co. H, 4th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS
Resided in Iredell County where he enlisted at age 32, March 1, 1862, for the war. Deserted April 13, 1863. No further records. [NCT 4:89]

Resided in Alexander County and enlisted in Iredell County at age 28, August 8, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private. Wounded in the head and/or left calf at Fredericksburg, Virginia, December 13, 1862. Returned to duty on January 27, 1863. Promoted to Corporal in March-August, 1863. Promoted to 1st Sargeant in January-February, 1864. Wounded at or near Wilderness, Virginia, May 6, 1864. Died at or near Orange Court House, Virginia, May 8-10, 1864, of wounds. [NCT 9:557]
